Public Shuttles

We have a huge range of shuttles that service all the trails including,

  • Black Stump trails (Derby main network),
  • Blue Tier trail,
  • Atlas trail,
  • Bay of Fires trail,
  • First 13 km of the Bay of Fires trail,
  • Custom shuttles.

All our shuttles can be pre-booked online direct from our website. The only shuttle that you can walk up and pay on the day is on our Black Stump shuttle service. 

  • If you wish to change your booking you must notify us at least 72 hours before your first booked departure time. All change requests can be made via our website contact us page or via email.
  • Any change requests by you are at the discretion of MTB Express and subject to our cancellation policy and availability.
  • If you cancel your booking 72 hours or more from the booked departure time then you will receive a full refund less than a 20% cancellation fee of the paid price will apply.
  • If you cancel your booking less than 72 hours from the booked departure time then a 100% cancellation fee of the paid price will apply.

Yes we specialise in package deals and you can save up to 20% with any of our;

  • multi-day shuttle,
  • group bookings
  • and family discounts.

All shuttles depart from the main shuttle bus carpark at the main trail head at Derby.

Trail Info

Blue Derby is home to over 120 km of world class Enduro and XC style purpose built mountain bike trails to suit all riders and abilities.

The trails at Blue Derby are graded as,

  • Green (easy),
  • Blue (intermediate),
  • Black (advanced).

Derby has an amazing variety of trails of all grades and lengths. Some trails are only a couple of kilometres  long and others are up to 20+ km with everything in between.

The trails at Blue Derby are split into town main sections,

  1. The main trail network is located in the town of Derby. Home to 100 km of trails (Black Stump is the shuttle drop off point).
  2. The Blue Tier area is one hour drive from Derby and is home to the Blue Tier, Atlas and Bay of Fires trails.

The Blue Derby trail head and carpark is located right at the end of Derby town main street only a short walk away.

Yes you sure can. It does rain a lot at Derby but the trails hold up very well in the wet.

The main Derby trail network is open all year but the Blue Tier trails are closed all winter from mid June to mid Sept yearly.

Derby Town Info

Derby is only a small country town but is always growing. Currently there is a

  • Post office (bread, milk & lollies),
  • 3 pubs/bars,
  • 2 cafes,
  • 4 bike hire/gear shops,
  • Donut and pie shop,
  • Pizza restaurant,
  • and a mechanic workshop with fuel.

No, the nearest ATM is at Scottsdale (30 min drive away) or you can get cash out at the IGA at Branxholm (5 min drive away).

Currently you can only get Telstra service but Optus has just installed a tower and will be operating in late 2023.

Derby has lots of Air bnb  properties (houses) available in all shapes, sizes and prices. The only single accommodation is the Dorset hotel.

Branxholm a 5 min drive or 20 min ride from Derby has a small IGA with most things and Scottsdale a 30 min drive away has a Woolworths and chemist.

Yes some of the bike hire shops in Derby also do mechanical repairs but spare parts can be limited.

Ben from MTB Metal Garage at Branxholm can also sort you out.

You can ride at Derby all year but the best time is during summer from Oct – April. Winter is very wet and cold and not as enjoyable. The Blue Tier trails are closed during winter but the main Derby network stays open all year.

Group Packages

We offer a very flexible service. You decide what you want. Any group package can include,

  • Airport transfers,
  • Uplift shuttles,
  • Morning tea/coffee and cake,
  • Accommodation,
  • Meals,
  • and bike hire.

Yes, we offer airport transfer services as part of any group package or multi-day shuttle package.

We do not offer just airport transfers.

Yes, you can customize a package to suit your needs and budget. Only pay for what you want.

We are group specialists and can cater for groups from 4 to 22 persons.

Even though we are based at Derby you can also ride at many other fantastic riding locations around Tasmania. You can choose from;

  • Blue Derby,
  • St Helen's,
  • Maydena,
  • Queenstown,
  • Wild Mersey,
  • and Georgetown trails

A 20% deposit is required to confirm a booking with the balance due in full 14 days before the first departure date.

Depending on the groups size and package. Group bookings are given priority if available.
